Today I read an amazing post by author Cheryl Shireman on Victorine Writes’s blog.  I recommend everyone read it, especially if you are a parent.

Her post was simply inspiring.  It reminded me (as so many of us often need reminding) about what is most important in life, of what, at the end of the day, matters the most.  Sometimes, as a society, we get so busy, so wrapped up in our goals and even our dreams that it’s easy to forget to slow down and enjoy what is right in front of us.

Because of her post, I wanted to share with you a bit of inspiration of my own–well not completely my own.  My mother gave me this a few years back, after something my husband and I had been waiting for fell through, leaving us feeling discouraged and defeated.  Since then, I’ve had this bit of insight, written by an anonymous author, posted on my refrigertator as a reminder that, despite any of the unfortunate mishaps in my life, I have it pretty good.  So, here it is; a reminder that so many are far less fortunate.

“If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep… You are richer than 75% of the world. If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace…You are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy. If you woke this morning with more health than illness…You are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week. If you never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation…You are ahead of  500 million people in the world. If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death…You are more blessed than the three billion people in the world. If your parents are still alive and still married…You are very rare, even in North America. If you can hold your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful…You are the blessed, because the majority can, but most do not. If you can hold someone’s hand, hug them, or even touch them on the shoulder…You are blessed because you can offer a healing touch. If you can read this message, then you have just received a double blessing in that someone was thinking of you and further more you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read at all.”

Have a good day. Count your blessings and share this post to remind everyone else how blessed you are.
